This line of Classic Heartwood Carved Conga drums by Africa Heartwood Project add a whole new dimension to Afro-Cuban, Latin, and Congolese drumming. The 10x24 size has a 10" playable surface, with 12" total outside diameter including the tuning rings. The height is 24" tall, similar to a djembe drum, which is shorter than a standard conga and more comfortable to play while seated. The outside diameter of the base opening is about 8.5". Being handcrafted out of a solid piece of Mansonia wood, and headed with unprocessed, thick cow skin, with oversize dimensions, the sound is warm and full, tones punchy, and bass much larger than usual for congas. These Classic Heartwood Carved Congas are also much more comfortable to play thanks to the thick rounded bearing edges and dropped tuning rings. They're available in five sizes: 10"x24" Short Quinto, 10"x28" Quinto, 11"x28" Conga, 12" x30" Tumbadora, and 13"x30" Super Tumba. Many drummers will appreciate the 24" height, which is shorter than a traditional quinto conga drum, making it more comfortable to play while seated in a standard chair. The difference between this conga and a factory manufactured drum is the warmth created by the carved wood and the untreaded cow skin, and the increased bass due to the dimensions of the shell. The bearing edge is also more comfortable than a traditional conga.
